Sleep Better Tonight

Body in Balance Chiro

Pain in your back and neck make getting through the day difficult, but it can make getting a good night’s sleep even harder. Finding a comfortable position is challenging to help you find sleep. But restful sleep is essential to your overall health and well-being. "Studies have found that Americans who ranked their quality of life very good or excellent slept an average of 18 to 23 minutes longer than those who considered their health and quality of life poorer." (Web MD)

Vancouver chiropractor Dr. Scott recommends these three tips which can help you find a more comfortable position to sleep better tonight.

1. If you're a back sleeper, try putting a pillow under your knees. This allows your spine to maintain the natural curve and will help alleviate pain in the lower back.

2. If you tend to sleep on your stomach, try adding a smaller pillow under your lower stomach/pelvis to push your spine upwards. This also eases back strain.

3. If you are a side sleeper, add a pillow (or full body pillow) between your knees and bring your knees up slightly towards your chest.

It is also important to find the right mattress. Too soft, and your back will be strained. Too hard, and you won't be able to fall asleep easily. We recommend the Sleep Number bed for the ability to change easily to each sleepers needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOvepiiXGCY
