New Patients

If you are a new patient at Body in Balance, we would first like to say congratulations! You have just taken the first step in getting your body in optimum alignment, which will help you perform your every day activities smoother and safer.

What to expect on your first visit

The first visit will take a bit longer than all other appointments. You should expect to spend around 30 minutes at our office if you have already filled out the paper work. We will first take a complete history, which includes your goals and expectations of treatment. We pride ourselves on serving our patients’ needs, whether it is fitness goals, or injury correction. We will then perform an examination to discover your treatment needs, which may include films of your spine. A brief report of findings will be given and we will lay out your specific treatment plan. Based on your assessment, we will treat you with the necessary tools, such as heat or ice, chiropractic adjustments, and/or progressive deep tissue massage. At the end of your first visit, you should know what areas are going to be treated, how long it is going to take to get your body in balance, what tools will be used, and how much it should cost.

What is an adjustment?

The sole purpose of an adjustment is to remove nerve interference from the body. Your brain is so powerful that is encased in the skull. The spinal cord is a continuation of the brain. Pairs of nerve roots exit the spine on each vertebral level and allow your brain to communicate to EVERY living cell in your body. Therefore, it is safe to say that your nervous system controls everything in your body from your nose to your toes. The spinal bones are common culprits for interference to the nervous system. When one or more bones are misaligned, it chokes off the nearby nerves and the messages from your brain to your body are distorted. Nerve interference can cause pain, muscle spasm, headaches, constipation, blurred vision and many other problems.

An adjustment is designed to remove the interference and allow your body to heal itself. Adjustments can also increase endorphins, which help in pain relief, and they can improve circulation to joints to improve healing.

Often times, you may hear a “crack” or “pop” during an adjustment. This is the noise that is made when a rapid decrease in pressure is released in a joint. It is similar to opening up a can of pop.

It is important to know that at Body in Balance Chiropractic, we do not only adjust the SPINE. Our whole body has joints, and all joints can benefit from being adjusted if the need is there.
